The woman, in her late 40s, was in a crosswalk at the intersection of Redwood Road and Conifer Way, next to Salt Lake Community College, when she was hit by a garbage truck from the college that was headed east and attempting to make a left turn, said Unified Police Sgt. Melody Gray.

The incident occurred about 7:20 a.m.

The garbage truck driver told police he did not see the woman, Gray said. The reason he didn't see her was still being investigated. It was not known whether the woman, whose name was not immediately released, had any ties to the school.
