Weber State softball took on the University of Utah Utes for the second time this season on Tuesday afternoon and came away with 2-0 victory. This is the first time WSU has defeated the Utes twice in one season.

How it happened: The first two innings went scoreless for both teams. In the top of the third inning, Weber State’s Lauren Hoe and Takesha Saltern were able to get on base.

Landi Hawker then hit a shot down the left field line for a double and two RBIs giving WSU a 2-0 lead.

The fifth and sixth innings went scoreless for both teams again and WSU maintained the 2-0 lead going into the seventh inning.

In the top of the seventh, Weber State was able to put a runner in scoring position but wasn’t able to get another run across the plate. Defensively in the seventh inning, Weber State got back-to-back putouts by Sydney White and Faith Hoe. For the final out of the game, pitcher Addie Jensen came up with a backwards K to solidify the Wildcat victory.

At the plate: Weber State finished the game with two runs, six hits and two RBIs. Weber State drew three walks, had just one strikeout and left three on base. WSU was led by Hawker, who had one hit and two RBIs. Hoe went 2-2 from the plate and scored one run.

In the circle: Kate Donaldson started in the circle for Weber State. She gave up three hits and had three strikeouts in the 15 batters faced.

Addie Jensen closed the game out for WSU pitching a complete three innings. She gave up just two hits, one walk and had one strikeout in the 12 batters faced.

In the field: WSU had 21 putouts and 12 assists. Ashlyn Visser had nine putouts while Faith Hoe and Lauren Hoe led the team with four assists. Defensively, Sydney White had three putouts and three assists.

Stats to know: Weber State is now 21-18 overall on the season and remain at 12-1 in Big Sky action. This is the first time in school history Weber State defeated Utah twice in one season.

Up next: Weber State has a bye in Big Sky action this weekend. WSU has one more in-state game against Utah Valley before the regular season concludes against Portland State May 3-4.
