SALT LAKE CITY — The new trailer for “The Other Side of Heaven 2: Fire of Faith” debuted over the weekend at FanX Spring Salt Lake Comic Convention. The second trailer hit YouTube on Tuesday and offers a more intimate look at the Groberg family as Elder John H. Groberg, portrayed by Christopher Gorham, receives a letter from Salt Lake City — presumably an assignment to serve as mission president in Tonga for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The film stars Gorham as Elder Groberg and New Zealand actress Natalie Medlock as his wife Jean. The new trailer introduces New Zealand actor Russell Dixon as then-Elder Thomas S. Monson who was assigned to the South Pacific region when Elder Groberg served as mission president of the area. The trailer, which features original music from The Killers, shows Elder Groberg's and his family's trials, faith and triumphs as they live and work in Tonga.
The film has been rated PG-13 for “thematic elements.”3 comments on this story
"When their son is born critically ill, the Grobergs face the ultimate test of their faith, and find themselves surrounded by the love and prayers of thousands of Tongans of all denominations. Barriers of religious strife are broken down as an entire nation unites in hopes of a miracle that will save the baby's life, as well as that of a Tongan minister's son who is in a coma in an adjacent hospital room," a news release wrote of the film.
“The Other Side of Heaven” came out in 2001 and starred Gorham and Anne Hathaway as Jean. Both movies are directed and produced by Mitch Davis, who began his quest to produce a film about the Latter-day Saint missionary experience more than 40 years ago.
“The Other Side of Heaven 2: Fire of Faith” opens nationwide on June 28.
