WEST VALLEY CITY — Two people were arrested Friday after a man was hit and killed by a vehicle earlier this week, police said.

About 9 p.m. Tuesday, a passerby found the body of Hairon Freyre-Portuondo, 20, lying in the road at 1855 W. 3188 South in West Valley City, police said. Investigators initially believed he may have been hit by a car but said it wasn't immediately clear how he died.

Police later said that Freyre-Portuondo "suffered fatal injuries that appeared consistent with being run over by a vehicle."

Investigators brought in a man for questioning who they believed might have been a passenger in the vehicle that hit Freyre-Portuondo. That passenger, Anthony Borge, 19, was arrested Friday for investigation of obstruction of justice, according to a statement from West Valley police.

Investigators found the alleged driver, Keirsten Tomasini, 22, in a truck that matched the vehicle that had hit Freyre-Portuondo. The truck was reported stolen April 1, police said.

Investigators learned that all three had been in the vehicle and there was "some sort of dispute," after which Freyre-Portuondo got out of the truck while it was moving, fell and the truck hit him, according to the statement.

"It was also determined that, although Tomasini was aware that she had hit Freyre-Portuondo, she fled the scene and did not attempt to render aid or obtain assistance for Freyre-Portuondo," police said.

Tomasini was arrested for investigation of manslaughter, failure to remain at the scene of an accident causing serious injury, receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle and obstruction of justice, police said.

"We are proud of the excellent work of our investigators on this complex case. They have worked diligently day and night and within 72 hours of the incident, have brought into custody all suspects believed to be involved in this case," police said.
