SALT LAKE CITY — The Hale Centre Theatre has brought excellence to its Utah stages for decades and the 2020 season is no exception. With a U.S. premiere of "Strictly Ballroom the Musical," beloved classics like "Mary Poppins," the fan-requested "Tarzan" and more, the upcoming season offers plenty for theatergoers to look forward to.

“We are beyond thrilled for our 2020 season … ” Sally Dietlein, HCT executive producer and co-founder, said in a press release. “These productions will really allow us to showcase the staging and artistic capabilities of the two stages in our new home in Sandy, particularly our stage-flooding water features. Believe me when I say you will not want to miss next year’s incredible line up!”

The 2020 season will open in January with the regional company premiere of the Steve Martin and Edie Brickell musical "Bright Star." The musical takes place in North Carolina during the 1920s and '40s, telling the story of young boy and girl from different worlds who fall in love. Live musicians will play the toe-tapping blue-grass score. "Bright Star" will run from Jan. 20-May 2, 2020.

The theater welcomes another premiere from Feb. 5-April 11, 2020, as "Strictly Ballroom the Musical" makes its U.S. debut straight from Australia and London’s West End. This stage adaptation of Baz Luhrmann's 1992 film explores the world of competitive ballroom dancing in a hilarious, heartfelt romance.

Next, the "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" Tony Award-winning musical "Mary Poppins" will take the stage April 29-July 11, 2020. Based on P.L. Travers' beloved classic children's book and featuring a script by "Downton Abbey" alum Julian Fellowes, the Broadway hit brings the beloved nanny and all her magic to life on stage.

The first summer show of 2020 is one shrouded in mystery. Hale Centre Theatre has only announced that it will be a Tony Award-winning play and that it will run from May 18-Aug. 8, 2020 but no other information has been released. So, make your best guess and look forward to a surprise.

August brings water and more water to Hale Centre Theatre's stage with the 1997 Tony Award-winner "Titanic the Musical," running from Aug. 5-Oct. 17, 2020. The musical by Peter Stone and Maury Yeston presents the real-life story of the Titanic's officers, crew and passengers.

The regional premiere of "Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express" runs at the Sandy theater from Aug. 24-Nov. 14, 2020. In this classic murder mystery, detective Hercule Poirot has a train full of suspects with just as many alibis. Climb aboard the Orient Express for this thrilling mystery.

A fan favorite returns to Hale Centre Theatre with its highly requested "Tarzan" Nov. 9, 2020-Jan. 16, 2021.
