ROY — Roy police stopped a motorist for his odd driving behavior early Tuesday only to discover that the man had been shot in both legs.

About 4:10 a.m., a Roy police officer spotted a vehicle whose driving patterns were unusual enough that it caught his attention, said Roy police detective Josh Taylor. At one point the car was stopped in the middle of an intersection.

When the officer pulled the driver over near 5700 South and 3500 West in Roy, he found more than he was expecting.

"When they approached the driver they found out he had two gunshot wounds to his legs. There was blood throughout the vehicle, so they applied a tourniquet (to one leg) and were able to get medical so they could get him transported to a hospital," he said.

Investigators believe the adult man, whose name was not released Tuesday, was shot while inside the car, likely by someone else. But Taylor said not much else was known about what happened.

"We don't know where this happened at, we don't know when it happened or the circumstances behind why it happened. We're still trying to figure all that out," he said.

The car was being processed by detectives on Tuesday for evidence.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call police at 801-774-1101.
