HEBER CITY — A girl was injured Monday after getting dragged by a school bus, troopers said.

About 3:45 p.m., the Wasatch County school bus had stopped to drop children off at the U.S. 40 intersection with Potter Lane, which is just northwest of Heber City. A 6-year-old's backpack got caught on the side of the bus, possibly behind the wheel, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

When the bus began moving again, it dragged the girl between 10 and 15 feet before stopping, troopers said.

The girl suffered scrapes and a possible broken leg, the UHP said. She was taken to Heber Valley Medical Center.

The Wasatch County School District announced the bus driver was placed on administrative leave while district officials and UHP troopers investigate.

"The safety and well-being of our 7,000 students is the No. 1 priority of Wasatch County School District. Our thoughts are with the student and her family," school district officials said in a statement.
