SALT LAKE CITY — Utah “American Idol” contestant Ashley Hess performed Sunday night as a part of the top 14 competition.

She performed an “emotional take” of “Fix You” by Coldplay.

See the performance below.

The Sunday night performances were in front of a live studio audience.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, viewers will vote seven members through to the next round on Monday night. And judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan will each pick an additional singer to send to the top 10.

“Ashley Hess got behind the piano for an emotional delivery of ‘Fix You’ by Coldplay that showcased singer-songwriter vibes and a lot of attention to detail. It was an understated but powerful performance. Perry compared her to Carole King, and Bryan said the performance was very her,” according to THR.

Hess made headlines during the audition episodes as Perry told her “she could win the whole thing,” according to my report for the Deseret News.

From there, Hess advanced to the “American Idol” top 20 and the top 14.
