SALT LAKE CITY — A man who was told to leave his gun in the car while attending a party was charged Friday with opening fire on party guests, according to court documents.

Isacc Brandon Trujillo, 18, of West Valley City, a documented gang member, was charged Friday in 3rd District Court with eight counts of discharge of a firearm, a third-degree felony; and possession of a firearm by a restricted person, a third-degree felony.

On March 16, Trujillo went to a party at 739 S. Jeremy St. and allegedly brandished a handgun, according to charging documents.

Outside the house, Trujillo was asked to leave the party. That's when Trujillo reached toward his ankle, the charges state. Fearing he was reaching for a gun, three people at the party jumped on Trujillo attempting to get the gun away from him, according to charging documents.

"Trujillo was able to get the gun from his ankle and insert a magazine," the charges state.

Trujillo then opened fire, striking one person in the hand, according to charging documents. When interviewed by police, Trujillo claimed he was "jumped" while outside the house, the gun fell out of his pants and he was able to grab it and fire several round, according to court documents.
