SALT LAKE CITY — The streaming giant Netflix is jumping into the world of publishing to release its first magazine.
Netflix is planning to publish a journal with the working title “Wide” to promote Netflix programming and stars, according to Bloomberg.
The magazine will have a 100-plus page inaugural edition featuring interviews and essays about people who work on Netflix series. Many of those pieces will be written by Netflix creators themselves, according to Bloomberg.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the free journal will be released on a quarterly basis on Netflix’s FYSee space and will be aimed at “voters and tastemakers,” including approximately 15,000 members of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences that determine Emmy wins and nominations.Comment on this story
Netflix debuted more than 700 programs last year and had 112 Emmy nominations, according to the Hollywood Reporter. It’s been reported that “Wide” will be the studio’s attempt to create a bigger presence in the Emmy awards.
According to Bloomberg, Netflix wrote in an email, “In preparation for a groundbreaking year in film and television, Netflix has gathered some of the most talented and sought after writers and photographers, thinkers and creatives, to make the inaugural issue of Wide, the Netflix print journal.”
Netflix plans on distributing the magazine in June ahead of Emmy award nominations.
