SALT LAKE CITY — Utah’s final week of spring football got off to a good start. The Utes also drew favorable reviews for last week’s scrimmage.
“It was a step forward without a doubt,” said Utah coach Kyle Whittingham, who noted that the offensive execution was cleaner. “Today’s practice was very good. The one thing you want to do is finish strong.”
Spring ball concludes with a practice Thursday and the Red-White Game on Saturday. The latter, Whittingham explained, will be a time to see how many of the younger players who haven’t played much at all can rise to the occasion in a gamelike situation.
“It’s important that we finish strong this week,” he said. “We did so today. We’ve got one more physical practice on Thursday, then the game on Saturday, and that will be a wrap.”
SATURDAY STUFF: Admission and parking for the Red-White Game is free. Saturday’s schedule includes the annual MUSS and alumni flag football games at 9 and 10 a.m., respectively. The spring finale kicks off at 11 a.m. and will be broadcast by the Pac-12 Networks and ESPN 700AM.
The Red-White Game will consist of four 10-minute quarters with a standard clock in the first half and a running clock in the second. There will be no punt or kickoff returns. A team trailing by more than 10 points after scoring will get the ball back.
Punters and the offensive line will wear black jerseys and play for both teams.
COACHING STAFFS: First-year assistants Sione Po’uha and Colton Swan will serve as head coaches in the spring game. Joining Po’uha on the Red coaching staff is Jim Harding, Morgan Scalley, Guy Holliday and Kiel McDonald. Swan is being assisted by Andy Ludwig, Sharrieff Shah, Freddie Whittingham and Lewis Powell on the White squad.12 comments on this story
