GOODYEAR, Ariz. — Dixie State’s women’s golf team closed the 2018-19 regular season with a 12th-place finish at the 2019 Western New Mexico Mustang Intercollegiate on Saturday at the Palm Valley Golf Club.
The Trailblazers (315-302) improved by 13 shots on day two as DSU moved up three spots from 15th to 12th with a two-round total of plus-41 617. West Texas A&M (296-287) posted the lone team red number of the event with a final-round 1-under 287 to claim the team title at plus-7 583, three strokes better than runner-up Colorado State-Pueblo (292-294-586, +10).
Senior Katie Ford (75-68) enjoyed a career day as she fired a tournament- and career-low round with a 4-under 68 to vault 22 spots up the leaderboard to finish in a five-way tie for first place at minus-1 143. The senior went out in 3-under 33 and carded five birdies and 12 pars en route to her first collegiate sub-70 round. However, Ford was denied her first individual win of the season as Oklahoma Christian’s Abigail Rigsby birdied the first playoff hole to claim medalist honors.Comment on this story
