Weber State softball is now on a seven game winning streak as they defeated Southern Utah twice Friday afternoon. WSU defeated SUU 3-2 and 7-6 in the double header of the three game series.

What coach Mary Kay Amicone said: "We had a great outcome today with two wins. I'm really pleased with the way Addie Jensen threw the ball today. It was also awesome to see Lauren Hoe's big hit. Overall, we can still do better. We left too many runners on base and we can improve on that. We need to score more throughout the game. We're really focusing on improving and I think today was a grind. Credit to Southern Utah because they played with a lot of energy and it was great for us to fight through that."

Game 1

How it happened: In the bottom of the first inning, Weber State was able to score one run to take an early 1-0 lead. Southern Utah answered in the second with two runs crossing the plate.

The next two innings went scoreless for both teams. WSU's offensive momentum ignited in the bottom of the fifth inning. Takesha Saltern started things off with a single to center field. Landi Hawker also got on base. with two WSU runners on base, Faith Hoe rocked a single to center field for two RBIs.

After five complete innings of play, Weber State had a 3-2 lead over the Thunderbirds.

In the top of the seventh inning, SUU made a strong attempt to tie things up and put off a Wildcat victory. The T-Birds were able to get a runner on third base, ready to score. With two outs, SUU's Dream Weaver hit a shallow line drive into left field, where WSU's Courtney Pestka made a diving catch to end the game.

At the plate: Weber State finished the game with seven hits. Visser went 2-3. Saltern also recorded two hits on the day. The Wildcats had just one strikeouts.

In the circle: Tatiana Su'esu'e started in the circle for WSU and faced 10 batters and got one strikeout. However, Su'esu'e gave up two runs.

Addie Jensen came in and pitched the remainder of the game getting the win and the save for Weber State. She faced 20 batters and had two strikeouts. Jensen finished the game with a 5.23 ERA.

Game 2

How it happened: The first two innings of the first game went scoreless for both teams. In the top of the third, SUU was able to get one run across the plate. Weber State answered in the bottom of the third. Chloe Camarero rocked a two run double to give WSU a 2-1 lead after three complete innings.

In the top of the fourth, Southern Utah managed back-to-back solo home runs to take a 3-2 lead. The bottom of the fifth inning proved to be fire once again for the Wildcats.

Hawker started things off getting on base with a walk. McKell McCuistion came into pinch hit and knocked a single into center field for an RBI. Faith Hoe followed that up with a single to left field. WSU then juiced up the bases.

Lauren Hoe stepped up to the plate and hit a bomb deep to left field for a grand slam giving WSU a 7-3 lead. WSU scored five runs in the fifth inning off of four hits.

Southern Utah didn't back down and hit a three run shot in the top of the seventh inning to bring the score 7-6. Chloe Camarero finished the game out for WSU by executing a 5-3 putout and WSU walked away with their second win of the day with a final score of 7-6.

At the plate: Weber State finished the game with nine hits. Faith Hoe went 2-3 at the plate and Lauren Hoe had the game high with her four RBIs. WSU had seven RBIs four strikeouts but drew three base on balls and left only six runners on base.

In the circle: Kate Donaldson started in the circle for WSU and pitched 3.1 innings and faced 14 batters. Addie Jensen came into the game and collected another win. She pitched 3.2 innings gave up just three hits and had two strikeouts in the 18 batters she faced.

Stats to know: Weber State is now 14-17 overall on the season and remain undefeated in Big Sky action with a 6-0 record. The Wildcats are on a seven game winning streak.
