LOGAN — Registration for the Cache Valley Soccer Academy's four summer camps is now open.
Under the direction of Utah State head women's soccer coach Heather Cairns, the Cache Valley Soccer Academy camps are designed to help players improve skills and tactics and gain confidence on and off the field. All camps will be instructed by the Utah State soccer staff, with help from current members of the USU team.
The 2019 camp slate will start with the Goalkeeping Academy, which will be held on Mondays, 5:30-6:30 p.m., beginning June 3, and running through the remainder of the month. The Goalkeeping Academy is open to girls and boys in eighth to 12th grades, and registration is $80 for the full session.
The Goalkeeping Academy is designed for goalkeepers that are serious about soccer that want to be challenged to play at a level that is expected from them in college. Each session will include focused technical and tactical training including shot-stopping, footwork, ball handling, dealing with crosses, 1v1 situations and positioning and angle play.
The Cache Valley Soccer Academy will host two College ID Camps. The first will be held on Friday, June 7, with the second on Friday, July 12. Each session will run 9 a.m.-noon and is limited to 36 field players and six goalkeepers. These camps are open to high school girls graduating between 2019 and 2023. Early registration is available at a discounted rate of $70, but will increase to $90 12 days before each camp.
The College ID camps are designed to challenge players in competitive environment. Camp topics will include tactical and technical training for field players, with specific training for goalkeepers. Camp participants will also have the opportunity to learn about what it takes to be successful as a college soccer student-athlete.
The camp season will conclude with the Junior High Girls Camp on Wednesday, July 31. The clinic, open to girls ages 12-14, will run from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Registration for this camp is $40.Comment on this story
The Junior High Girls Camp is for players serious about soccer that want to be challenged to play at a level that is expected from high school and college soccer players. The clinic will feature focused technical and tactical training including footwork and ball control, passing and receiving under pressure, 1v1 attacking and defending, increasing speed of play, ball striking, position-specific training and small-sided scrimmages.
