SALT LAKE CITY — In the wake of the sudden closing of 13 Firestone service centers in the Salt Lake Valley, a couple of businesses are stepping up to make sure Utahns' tire needs are met as well as holding job fairs for affected workers.
Bridgestone Retail Operations on Tuesday announced the closure of 13 Firestone Complete Auto Care store locations in the Salt Lake City metro area. Customers are being referred to the Firestone Complete Auto Care store in West Jordan or one of the 150 Bridgestone affiliated dealers statewide as an alternative, a news release stated.
Utah-based Burt Brothers Tire & Service said the company will honor service agreements and warranties for Firestone customers.
“We will make this a seamless transition for customers,” said owner Jeremy Burt. “We will honor all Firestone warranties and take care of all tire rotations and balances, flat repairs and other needs.”
The Firestone credit card will also be accepted, he added.
Burt Brothers will be conducting a job fair for former Firestone workers on Friday starting at 8 a.m. at 737 N. 400 W. in North Salt Lake.Comment on this story
Burt said that his company is also looking for opportunities to reopen the Firestone shops under the Burt Brothers name.
Meanwhile, Mark Miller Subaru announced an expedited interview process for the Firestone employees impacted by the closures.
“To help alleviate stress in this challenging time, (the company) would like to extend a special invitation to anyone impacted by this closure,“ said Joshua Goldsmith, culture director for Mark Miller Subaru. Prospective employees can send an email to email@example.com with “Firestone” in the subject line to arrange an interview, he said.
