SALT LAKE CITY — Police say a man who apparently didn't want to go to jail was arrested after he tried to ram a police car while his girlfriend and their unrestrained 1-year-old child were in the car.
Luis Alejandro Alfaro-Munguia, 18, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail Saturday for investigation of failing to stop for police, two counts of assault on a police officer, child abuse, reckless endangerment, driving on a denied license and reckless driving.
Salt Lake police attempted to pull Alfaro-Munguia over for a minor traffic infraction abpit 2:30 a.m. Saturday, according to a police report.
But when the officer turned on his overhead lights, Alfaro-Munguia continued driving, hit a tree that had fallen in the road, and "then accelerated backward toward (the) police vehicle, which was directly behind" him, the report states.

A chase that lasted approximately seven minutes at a "high rate of speed" before Alfaro-Munguia pulled over, according to the report.
"He stated he didn't want to go to jail so (he) fled," police wrote.
In the vehicle were the driver's girlfriend and their 1-year-old child.
"The 1-year-old child was not secured in the vehicle and was placed at an extreme amount of danger, as was the adult female," the report states.
After he was arrested, Alfaro-Munguia's parents contacted police and told them that "he is paranoid and has fled from the police multiple times, even though they tell him not to."
