VINEYARD — Authorities have identified a 6-year-old Vineyard girl killed Wednesday when she was hit by an SUV.

Just before 3:30 p.m., Annie Gonzalez was riding a scooter along Parkway Place near Vineyard Elementary School when a woman pulled out of a driveway and hit her, Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon said.

According to Cannon, the driver had backed out of her driveway into a cul-de-sac, then turned left to drive away when Annie came down another driveway on a battery-powered scooter and rode into the path of the SUV.

Efforts to revive Annie were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead on scene, Cannon said.

Cannon said the death appears to be an accident and the driver was cooperating with investigators, including completing drug testing that is standard following this kind of incident.

"Investigators do not suspect negligence, carelessness or impairment as factors, and initial test results are negative for drugs or alcohol. Based on information known at this time there will be no charges filed against the driver," Cannon said.
