SALT LAKE CITY — It appears that leaked “Star Wars: Episode IX” poster is not a leaked “Episode IX” poster after all, at least according to actor Mark Hamill.

What happened: Excitement swirled on social media Wednesday after a reported “Star Wars: Episode IX” poster leaked on the r/StarWarsLeaks sub-Reddit.

The poster shows the stars of the films in new uniforms, C-3PO with Chewbacca’s bowcaster, the Knights of Ren and some new characters that have not yet been seen in the films.

Hamill’s comments: Though a few details appear accurate to rumors we’ve heard about the ninth film, Hamill says the poster is not legitimate.

Comment on this story

In a response to a fan tweet seeming to inquire about the legitimacy of the poster, Hamill said, “Doubtful. Looks like the work of a #UPF (ultra-passionate fan).”

In a response to another tweet about the poster, Hamill said, “I’m pretty sure that’s just the (wonderful) work of a passionate fan.”

Fans of the film have been waiting with bated breath for any news on “Episode IX,” so Hamill’s comments might come as a disappointment to some who thought the poster was real.

Still, social media had fun with it while it lasted:

“Star Wars: Episode IX” hits theaters Dec. 20.
