Shawna Marie Chapman, 32, formerly of Cottage Grove, Oregon, pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree murder in U.S. District Court in Salt Lake City. The case was prosecuted in Utah because Hill Air Force Base was her last known address, according to court documents.

Chapman was living in Utrera, Spain, near where her husband was stationed at Moron Air Force Base in Moron, Spain.

Chapman admitted that on Feb. 10, 2016, she stabbed her 11-month-old daughter in the stomach, intending to kill her, according to court documents. The girl suffered a life-threatening injury, requiring immediate life-saving surgery and extended hospitalization.

Judge David Sam scheduled a sentencing hearing for June 6. Chapman faces up 20 years in prison.
