SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Board of Education is seeking applicants for its Precinct 5 seat following the recent and unexpected passing of long-time board member and former President Heather Bennett.

To apply, applicants must have lived within the precinct boundaries for at least one year. Interested candidates should fill out an application listing their qualifications. A printed application can also be obtained from Superintendent Lexi Cunningham's office at 440 E. 100 South.

The new board member will serve from the time of the swearing in until Dec. 31, 2020. The Precinct 5 board seat will be up for re-election in November 2020.

The deadline for applications is 3 p.m. Thursday, April 4. The school board will screen the applications and will then interview candidates on Tuesday, April 9, starting at 5 p.m.

A swearing-in ceremony for the appointee will take place no later than Tuesday, April 16.
