SALT LAKE CITY — “The Masked Singer” winner T-Pain said he didn’t really think the reality TV show was that good.

He told The Today Show that he wasn’t sure why he joined the show.

"I really don't know. 'Cause it was a weird pitch," he said. "I may not have been sober when I heard it, but it worked out."

"Just think of trying to pitch that show to somebody," T-Pain said. "At first, when I heard it, I was like, 'Man, this is probably the stupidest thing I ever heard in my life,' but it worked out."

T-Pain said he planned to be eliminated in the first episode, too.

According to USA Today, T-Pain said that the monster outfit called to him.

“I didn’t really get into it until I saw the choices for the costume. Once I saw Monster, I was like, ‘I just want to wear that thing.’ I wasn't going to pass by that Monster,” he said.

Flashback: Back in February, T-Pain said that he was surprised Gladys Knight didn’t win, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"I mean, she's still doing her thing. She was amazing the whole time and if it was up to me, I definitely would have let her win. No question. That's somebody I look up to. Nobody wants to beat Gladys Knight at anything! I'd let her win a video game," he said.

He told the New York Daily News that his victory on “The Masked Singer” would be the “second coming” for his career.
