LOGAN – Utah State senior Madison Ward-Sessions, along with sophomores Autumn DeHarde and Leighton Varnadore, each garnered all-Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference accolades a total of five times.
For the first time in the league’s history, gymnasts earned all-conference honors based on their final regional qualifying scores (RQS) going into the MRGC Championships, which are being held Friday, March 22, at the Marriott Center in Provo.
All-conference awards had previously been based upon individual finishes at the MRGC Championships. Gymnasts with an RQS that ranked among the top three were tabbed to the first team on the specific event, while gymnasts that ranked fourth through sixth were named to the second team.
Ward-Sessions garnered all-MRGC honors three times, including first-team accolades on floor. She was also named to the second team on vault and in the all-around. The native of Rexburg, Idaho, who was tabbed the 2017 MRGC Floor Specialist of the Year, has now garnered seven all-conference accolades from the MRGC.
Heading into Friday’s championships, Ward-Sessions is tied for 16th nationally and tied for first in the MRGC on floor (9.920 RQS), while ranking fifth in the league on vault (9.820) and fourth in the all-around (39.250).Comment on this story
