As an immigrant myself who went through the legal vetting process taking more than six years to obtain citizenship in our country, I think citizenship is a privilege, not a right of immigrants and refugees. Requirement of assimilation of patriotism, self-sufficiency, language, customs and civics education should exist.

Those who are fleeing persecution in dangerous situations should be given special consideration; however, some countries bar full citizenship of those who are not born on their native soil regardless of relatives already residing in their country.

America historically has welcomed immigrants from all over the world. Gratefully, I endured the wait. America must protect its citizens from unwanted abuse of this privilege. What is hard to obtain will be esteemed.
