MAGNA — Two people recently involved in separate auto-pedestrian accidents in Magna and Midvale have died as a result of their injuries, Unified police announced Tuesday.

About 10:30 p.m. Monday, Harold D. Phillips, 86, of Midvale, was riding his bicycle through the intersection of 480 West and Center Street in Midvale when he was hit by a vehicle and killed, said Unified Police Sgt. Melody Gray. There was a stop sign for Phillips' direction of travel, but investigators were unsure Tuesday if he stopped.

Gray said Phillips was wearing a helmet and an orange reflective vest, but the vest was covered by a black jacket he wore over the top of it. Impairment was not believed to be a factor and no citations were issued to the driver on Monday.

Robert Dewey, 59, of Magna, who was hit by a vehicle on Jan. 30 while crossing the street at 8950 W. Main in Magna, died due to complications from injuries sustained in the accident, Gray said Tuesday.

The man was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray with head trauma after the incident where he remained until his death.

Impaired driving was not suspected in that case and no charges had been filed against the driver as of Tuesday.
