ST. GEORGE — Utah State’s men’s golf team is tied for third place with a 5-over 293 after the first round of the Southern Utah-hosted Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational held here Monday at the par-72, 6,900-yard Sunbrook Golf Club.

Northern Colorado leads the 11-team field at 6-under-par 282, while UNC’s Joshua Matz shot an opening round 4-under 68 to sit on top of the leaderboard.

For Utah State, freshman Cameron Tucker carded an even-par 72 during his opening round and is tied for 14th place. Sophomore Colten Cordingley and junior Chase Lansford both carded rounds of 1-over 73 and are tied for 19th place, while sophomore Andy Hess and junior Hayden Eckert both fired rounds of 3-over 75 and are currently tied for 28th.

Utah State will conclude play in the Thunderbird Invitational with 18 holes on Tuesday. The Aggies will be paired with players from Western Illinois and Fairleigh Dickinson and begin their rounds at 10 a.m.
