A man killed in an avalanche while snowmobiling in the Chalk Creek area has been identified as 49-year-old Jason Lyman of Mona, Utah.

COALVILLE, Summit County — A man who died Saturday after being buried in an avalanche while snowmobiling in the Chalk Creek area of Summit County has been identified as 49-year-old Jason Lyman of Mona, Juab County.

The Summit County Sheriff's Office said Lyman died Saturday in an avalanche that occurred in the East Fork of Chalk Creek around midday. Lyman was buried for 30 to 40 minutes before two friends were able to dig him out and begin resuscitation efforts. Summit County officials said the efforts continued for about 40 minutes before a Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter arrived and transported Lyman to an Evanston, Wyoming, hospital where he died.

Officials said the avalanche was 500-600 feet wide and 4-10 feet deep at the toe. No one else was injured in the incident.
