The Kearns High School relay team shouts to their teammate in the Women's 200 Medley relay during the 6A Swimming Championship at the Richards Building at BYU in Provo on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019.

PROVO — Deja vu.

For the second year in a row, American Fork won the 6A girls swimming state meet and Lone Peak won the boys state meet.

The American Fork girls team finished with 376 points to win the crown, with Lone Peak coming in second and Syracuse finishing third.

“It’s wonderful. It was a total team victory. It was kids coming together and swimming with their hearts and souls for one purpose. Just so proud, just so proud of each and every one of them. I told them before region, if anybody doubts their worth or their importance to our team, just rest assured it’s going to require everybody doing their job, and they did,” American Fork head coach Kathy King said.

King was optimistic about American Fork’s chances of a repeat.

“I knew the girls were capable of repeating. Along with the boys, we set a goal of top three in the state and they surpassed that tonight by working together to achieve,” King said.

American Fork improved on its Friday night preliminary performance to secure another state title.

“I felt like Friday night, prelim session, that we positioned ourselves really well to score a lot of potential points and if everyone swam at least their seed or better, which many did, that we could do this. We needed to be safe in our relays and we needed to come out and swim hard for the team,” King said.

American Fork’s Allie Hill won the 500 freestyle and the 200 freestyle.

“Allie is reliable, trustworthy, dependable. Allie is one of those swimmers that you can always rely on. She’s a leader out of the water, doesn’t have to say much. Just so proud of her,” King said.

Lone Peak won the boys’ title in dominating fashion, racking up 326 points. American Fork finished second and Weber finished third.

“Every state title is exciting. These boys are amazing young men that went in here, wanted to win, and they earned the win,” Lone Peak head coach Celeste Tiffany said.

Tiffany was happy to see her team develop over the season.

“They’re strong young men, but together they became very unified. They knew who they were, they developed their skill sets and they showed it tonight,” Tiffany said.

Lone Peak took the first event of the night, the 200-yard medley relay, and cruised from there.

“We started it off in that medley relay. Right from the beginning, they went after it,” Tiffany said.

Jordan Tiffany was amazing, breaking state records in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:48.75 and in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 47.74.

“It’s hard to choose one because it took all of them. Every single one of them had to come back and they did, and they moved up. To choose one of them, for me, is not possible because they are all important,” Tiffany said.
