COALVILLE — Layton Christian secured its eighth straight region title with a 107-72 win over North Summit.
All were reminded that basketball is just a game as this game started in a most unusual but touching way: an uncontested tip followed by an uncontested layup by North Summit’s senior captain Hayden Blonquist. The high-flying Eagles offense coupled with an aggressive defense powered Layton Christian to a 12-point lead after the first quarter. By halftime, the lead had grown to 36. The deep Eagle bench took control of the second half leading to the 107-72 final score.
The victory in its final region game secured the Region 16 title for Layton Christian — that’s eight straight region titles. LCA athletic director Jared Miller noted the Eagles are 77-1 in region play over the last 8 seasons and those titles cover both 1A and 2A divisions.
