SALT LAKE CITY — A woman in Idaho is making headlines for breaking up a fight between her dog and a mountain lion.
The woman from Mackay, Idaho, went outside to break up a fight between what she thought was her dog and another dog, according to the Twin Falls Times-News.
However: When she pulled the animals away from each other, she saw that one of the animals was a juvenile male mountain lion weighing 35 pounds.
The woman then yelled for her husband to grab his gun. He shot the mountain lion while the wife was holding it, according to a press release from the Idaho Fish and Game.7 comments on this story
Then, according to the Times-News, the couple called local authorities. The fish and game department arrived 30 minutes later.
The woman and dog experienced scratches, according to the report.
Idaho Fish and Game said this is the third attack on dogs by a mountain lion.
- “People who live near wintering deer should understand there is likely to be mountain lions nearby, too, and they should be aware of their surroundings, and not leave their pets outside and unattended, especially in early mornings, late evenings and at night when mountain lions are most active,” according to Idaho Fish and Game.
