Mitt Romney could have been a part of the solution of the shutdown, but instead became part of the problem. He could have said to the Democrats, “OK, now put up or shut up” and could have declared himself to be a part of the solution by saying that he would promise to work cooperatively with all interests to find an effective compromise.

Party politics must be ignored if Congress is to fulfill its rightful place in the U.S. government.
