SALT LAKE CITY — NBA coaches who committed the crime better be prepared to do the time.

In the aftermath of Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert being robbed of being named an All-Star reserve, the Salt Lake City Police Department launched an investigation.

The investigation's result?

The SLCPD deduced that The Stifle Tower was indeed the victim of an act of injustice. Salt Lake's finest even found some damning evidence against Western Conference coaches who picked Nikola Jokic, Karl-Anthony Towns, LaMarcus Aldridge, Russell Westbrook, Klay Thompson, Damian Lillard and Anthony Davis as All-Star reserves from the Western Conference.

On Thursday night, SLCPD tweeted out its case with a photo of a blindfolded Sandra Bullock from the popular Netflix movie "Bird Box."

"Our investigation into the #NBAAllStar #snub of @rudygobert27 has discovered this un-doctored photo of the NBA coaches voting. #Robbery."

(If your sarcasm meter is broken, the SLCPD was joking, even if this "crime" does seem worthy of severe punishment if you ask the Jazz community.)

The police department's social media team also stood up for Jazz star Donovan Mitchell, who was also overlooked in the All-Star process despite a tremendous month of January.

They humorously tweeted out an ostrich with its head buried in the sand.

"We also found this video of the coaches watching @spidadmitchell play. We are compiling all of this #evidence!"

As one Jazz fan noted on the SLCPD thread, the police department's humorous reaction helped soften the blow for disappointed Gobert supporters.

BETTER THINGS AHEAD?

If SBNation.com projections hold true, the 2019 college football season could be even better than 2018 for the University of Utah, but the outlook doesn't look so rosy for BYU and Utah State.

SBN has released the results of its system that tries to project the level of improvement to expect based on returners and other measurements. If you're a Western Michigan fan, this could be a fun season. The Broncos top the list of teams projected to make the most improvement in 2019. UAB is at the bottom of the barrel.

As far as local teams go, Utah is ranked 21st with 75 percent of its returning starters, BYU is 65th with 63 percent coming back and USU is at No. 104 with just 53 percent returning.

According to SBN, the Utes will be the Pac-12 frontrunner to begin the season with the most returning production in the conference.

"Let’s just focus on the fact that Utah, which finally broke through and won the Pac-12 South, might take one final step up the ladder," SBN writer Bill Connelly wrote.

Jazz play-by-play announcer David Locke added some tangible evidence for the SLCPD's investigation.
