The incident happened about 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the Neil O'Donnell & Sons Mortuary, 372 E. 100 South. Police say one man was there to attend a funeral when an acquaintance also showed up. The two men then got into a verbal argument, allegedly over drugs, according to police.

"Other people attending broke up the altercation and encouraged them to reconcile," according to a Salt Lake police report.

But as the men were in the process of hugging it out, one man stabbed the other in the back, police say.

The victim was treated at the scene after refusing transportation to a hospital, according to police. Investigators say they have identified the attacker but had not been able to find him as of Wednesday.
