Utah State men's tennis (3-2) lost, 4-3, to Miami (4-0) on Friday at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend.

Miami earned the doubles point after junior Stephen Madonia and redshirt junior Dane Dunlap won, 6-1, at the No. 3 spot over junior Duro Opacic and sophomore Felipe Acosta. Sophomores Bojan Jankulovski and Adria Soriano Barrera then clinched the point for the Hurricanes with a 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot against junior Sergiu Bucur and freshman Rithvik Bollipalli.

In singles, USU recorded the next point with sophomore Jose Carvajal, winning 6-3, 6-4, against freshman Franco Aubone at the No. 5 spot. Acosta followed suit with a 6-3, 7-6, win against Dunlap on court four. Miami freshman and No. 97 ranked Francisco Bastias tied things up 2-2 with a 7-6, 6-4 win against Opacic at the No. 3 spot. The match then came down to the last three courts.

Freshman Isaac Arturo Arevalo forced his match to go to three sets against No. 21 ranked Adria Soriano Barrera on court one as Arevalo lost, 5-7, 7-5, 2-6.

Bollipalli then dropped a three-set match for the Aggies at the No. 6 spot, 2-6, 7-5, 6-3, against freshman Kaya Gore.

At No. 2 singles, Bucar faced No. 35 ranked Jankulovski and forced the match to go to three sets after Bucur lost the first set, 4-6, and won the second set, 6-2. Bucur was down 3-4 in the third set, but due to Gore's win over Bollipalli, the match was unfinished.

Utah State will next take on Washington (1-1) on Saturday at 2 p.m. MT, in Austin, Texas, in the consolation round of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
