Utah State women’s basketball (10-7, 5-1 Mountain West) takes on New Mexico (16-2, 6-1 MW) on Saturday, Jan. 26, at 2 p.m., in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.

Utah State and New Mexico are two of three teams in the Mountain West to have lost only one conference game. Utah State lost at Fresno State, 70-59, while New Mexico lost to UNLV, 66-57. Fresno State is the other team to have lost one league game after losing 72-60 to Boise State. Boise State remains the only undefeated team in conference play.

Saturday’s matchup will find the No. 1 defense in the Mountain West of Utah State taking on the No. 2 offense of New Mexico. Utah State allows 57.8 points per game, while New Mexico averages 76.2 points per game. Utah State is ranked 48th in the nation in scoring defense, while New Mexico is 39th in the nation in scoring offense.

The Aggies have outrebounded their last two opponents by more than 20 boards after outrebounding Colorado State by 25 (45 to 20) and San José State by 21 (51 to 30). Utah State is No. 2 in the conference in rebounding, averaging 39.2 per game, while New Mexico is No. 1, averaging 45.4 per game. Nationally, the Lobos are sixth in rebounds per game, 12th in defensive rebounds and 29th in offensive rebounds. Individually, New Mexico senior center Jaisa Nunn leads the league in offensive rebounds, averaging 3.9 per game, while Utah State junior guard/forward Shannon Dufficy leads the conference in defensive rebounds, averaging 6.9 per game.

New Mexico has won four-straight games, including an 80-77 overtime win over UNLV on Wednesday. The Lobos lead the overall series against Utah State, 17-6. This season, New Mexico averages 76.2 points per game while shooting 41.5 percent (506-of-1,218) from the field, 30.3 percent (131-of-433) from behind the arc and 64.7 percent (229-of-354) at the free-throw line. Defensively, opponents are averaging 62.1 points against the Lobos, shooting 35.8 percent (409-of-1,144) from the floor, 26.6 percent (103-of-387) from the 3-point line and 66.6 percent (197-of-296) at the free-throw line. Senior forward Nike McClure leads the team in blocks, averaging 2.8 per game, while Robertson leads the team in steals at 2.6 per game.
