Tony Finau lived out a dream Thursday — and it wasn't just being able to golf at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, California, while his home state was under a deep freeze.

The wildly successful Utah golfer was paired with childhood golf hero Tiger Woods in the first round of the Farmers Insurance Open for the first time in his career.

The Rose Park native made the most of the moment, too.

Finau got the 2019 season off to a great start, finishing one stroke ahead of Woods with a 3-under 69 on his dream day. Finau is tied for 41st, seven strokes behind early leader Jon Rahm (10-under, 62).

"Had a lot of fun out there and this certainly added to it," Finau wrote on Twitter, adding an emoji of a bird with a video of one of his birdies. "The crowds were awesome. Thanks for all of the support."

'BLESSING IN DISGUISE'

Joe Ingles took the long route to the NBA, playing professionally in Australia, Israel and Spain before getting a chance as a late-bloomer. The Utah Jazz small forward's journey, which took a fortunate turn in 2014 when the Los Angeles Clippers cut him, is being featured as a top video on NBA.com.

"That situation that happened with the Clippers and getting cut and knowing at 27 this might be my last chance — looking back now it was a blessing in disguise that it happened the way it happend," Ingles told the league's website. "I'm grateful they did cut me because it's worked out great."

The Clippers' loss has turned out to be the Jazz's gain, of course.

RUSSIAN STAR

On the other side of the globe, former Weber State standout and Jazz forward Joel Bolomboy is making the most of the second chance he got in his professional career.

Bolomboy, the Wildcats' all-time leading rebounder, played for the Jazz and the Milwaukee Bucks before continuing his pro career overseas.

KAUFUSI TO UCLA?

Former Cottonwood High and University of Utah defensive end Jason Kaufusi is expected to be hired as outside linebackers coach at UCLA, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Kaufusi has been Nevada's defensive line coach for the past two years. The 39-year-old has previously worked for Utah, BYU and Weber State.
