VERNAL — Police say charges have been filed against a boy accused of fatally stabbing a man during a home invasion last year.
According to a news release from Vernal Police Department, the boy, whose age and name were not released, was charged Thursday in 8th District Juvenile Court in Vernal with aggravated murder.
On Sept. 13, the boy allegedly "forcibly entered" the home of 84-year-old CalDee Reynolds near the Ashley Regional Medical Center, 150 W. 100 North, and stabbed Reynolds and the home's two other occupants.
Reynolds was flown to a hospital and later died from his injuries in November, police said. The two other victims were also treated for "extensive injuries."1 comment on this story
Police said the boy was "incarcerated on unrelated charges shortly after the incident."
"Law enforcement has been certain that our community has been safe, and has remained quiet until formal charges were filed to maintain the integrity of the criminal case," according to the release. "Law enforcement will have no further comment on this case until the time is appropriate."
The boy was also charged with two counts of attempted aggravated murder and aggravated burglary, police said.
