SALT LAKE CITY — Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant’s “The Mamba Mentality” book has served as inspiration to Donovan Mitchell throughout his second year with the Utah Jazz.
Now the former Louisville star has agreed to a partnership with Bryant’s BodyArmor Sports Drink company.
The deal was announced Wednesday, but terms weren’t disclosed.
However, Mitchell will be featured in the company’s newest ad campaign set to launch later this year, appear in in-store and advertising campaigns, be included in digital and social media activations, and appear at local events and help to generate awareness for the brand throughout the country.
“Growing up, I loved watching Kobe play. When I noticed he was building this brand and leading a new, younger generation of top pro-athletes, I knew that I wanted to be part of it,” Mitchell said. “I’m thrilled to join the BODYARMOR team and excited to show fans everywhere that there are better hydration options out there.”
Bryant became a shareholder for the BodyArmor company in 2013.
The premium sports drink is also the official sports drink of the UFC, Spartan Race and the NCAA, including March Madness this year. Even Coca-Cola purchased a minority stake in the company in August.Comment on this story
Mitchell joins a team of high-profile partners and investors in the brand such as Bryant, James Harden, Mike Trout, Dustin Johnson, Andrew Luck and Mookie Betts, among others.
He also has endorsement deals with Stance socks, Adidas and New Era.
“Donovan Mitchell is one of the most electrifying, young players in the game today,” said Kobe Bryant. “Given how much the brand has grown in the last year, we’re excited to add a player of his caliber to our already impressive roster and show fans everywhere that today’s top athletes are ditching their outdated sports drinks and choosing BODYARMOR.”
