SALT LAKE CITY — Thanks to our favorite national council — that's the American Pie Council — we've been officially celebrating the beloved baked dessert for more than 30 years.
The glorious occasion that is National Pie Day falls on Jan. 23, but honoring pie doesn't have to stop there — fortunately, there are several food holidays like National Pizza Pie Day on Feb. 9 and Pi Day on March 14 to ensure it doesn't.
So this is really just the beginning of the pie celebration for 2019. To get started, here are three places in Utah offering discounted pies on Wednesday, Jan. 23.
Marie Callender's: Marie Callender’s is extending the celebration of National Pie Day to an entire month, offering whole pies to-go starting at $7.99 through Feb. 28, according to a news release. Although this sale excludes cheesecakes, seasonal fresh fruit pies and promotional pies, dessert enthusiasts still get to choose from a variety of more than 20 pies, ranging from apple to banana cream to chocolate satin. For a full list of available pies, visit mariecallenders.com.
The pie eating doesn't have to be limited to just Wednesdays. Marie Callender's also does Free Pie Mondays, where customers can get a slice of free pie with the purchase of an entree.
Village Inn: For Village Inn, celebrating pie happens on a weekly basis with free pie Wednesdays. The deal is available all day long, so head over and claim your slice, ranging from cherry to chocolate peanut butter cup to lemon.5 comments on this story
Penny Ann’s Cafe: Penny Ann’s Cafe is celebrating National Pie Day by offering pie lovers a slice of pie for $2 — discounted from the regular price of $3.79. Pie options include chocolate mousse, key lime, strawberry cream and coconut cream. For a list of additional flavors, visit pennyannscafe.com. While the deal should apply to all three Utah locations — we spoke with the one in Salt Lake City — call ahead and double-check with your specific location.
And for those willing to go the extra mile, you can get a free slice of pie for signing up and joining the Penny Ann’s Cafe Club, which can be done through the restaurant’s website.
