MURRAY — Police say they have now arrested five suspected members of the same gang connected with a shooting that injured two people and forced the evacuation of Fashion Place mall on Sunday.
But the shooters themselves have eluded detectives, Murray police said.
Two of the men, Steven Perez-Hernandez, 18, and Arian Huerta, 20, fled police during traffic stops on Wednesday, according to police affidavits. They were being held without bail for investigation of inciting a riot and failing to stop at the command of police.
Flaviano Aguilar, 20, was also booked into Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of obstructing justice and inciting a riot.
Police say Aguilar sought to prevent another suspect's arrest "by sending him money via an (app) to a known acquaintance," according to court records.
The men, all suspected members of the Florencia 13 gang, confronted members of a rival gang outside the mall Sunday. One in each group fired, seriously injuring a man and a woman, according to investigators.8 comments on this story
