NEPHI — A man, woman and child in a car were injured Thursday when a truck traveled through the freeway median and struck them, troopers say.

About 12:30 p.m., the driver of a Dodge truck driving north on I-15 lost control and traveled through the median onto southbound lanes, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

Troopers say it was raining and the road was wet at the time.

The truck hit a Ford Focus near the car's left front, causing "extensive damage" to both vehicles, the UHP reported.

Troopers said the man who was driving the Focus was trapped in the vehicle and it took "an extended time" to rescue him from the car. Though he was wearing a seat belt, he had numerous serious injuries.

After being taken to a local hospital, he was transported to Utah Valley Hospital with internal bleeding and was in critical condition as of Thursday evening, the UHP said.

A woman in the Ford sustained a broken arm, and a child in a car seat sustained a collapsed lung in the crash, according to troopers.

The driver of the truck sustained minor injuries.
