MILLCREEK — Two armed men were arrested following a chaotic scene in Millcreek on Thursday that included a hit-and-run crash and an elderly couple being carjacked.

Just after noon, there was a hit-and-run crash near 3900 South and 900 East, said Unified Police Sgt. Melody Gray. No injuries were reported.

The suspect vehicle was able to continue driving for a little bit before it stopped and two men got out, she said. The men, both armed with handguns, jumped into the back seat of a car driven by an elderly couple that was stopped and they ordered the couple to drive away, she said.

Unified police were responding to the area by that time, Gray said. One officer happened to see one of the suspects pop his head up from the back seat of the elderly couple's vehicle, she said. That car was then pulled over and both men again attempted to run.

One man was quickly arrested but fought with officers, according to Gray. Officers were forced to deploy a Taser. The other man was also arrested a little while after that.

Cory Terry Webb, 24, and Justin R. Sheridan, 24, were both arrested, according to Unified police.

According to an affidavit filed in 3rd District Court, Webb had "a large amount of narcotics" in his possession when he was arrested.

Students at nearby Olympus Junior High and Crestview Elementary schools were briefly instructed to shelter in place as police looked for the outstanding suspects.

The incident happened on the two-year anniversary of the death of Unified police officer Doug Barney, who was killed in the line of duty. Barney was investigating a hit and run in the Holladay area when he was shot by a fleeing suspect.

Court documents show that Webb has an extensive criminal history in Utah dating back to 2013.

In 2016, Webb pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery, theft by receiving stolen property and failure to stop or respond at command of police. In 2015, he pleaded guilty to shoplifting.
