BOUNTIFUL — The Utah Department of Transportation has begun construction on a new traffic signal at the intersection of U.S. 89 and 1000 North in an effort to slow traffic coming into the city from southbound I-15 at Exit 317.

In addition to the signal, crosswalks and pedestrian ramps will be added to the north and east legs of the intersection.

According to UDOT, the project will take approximately eight weeks to complete. It also said crews will primarily be working in the roadway’s shoulder between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. The agency said traffic impacts should be limited, but intermittent, short-term lane closures may occur. One lane of traffic in each direction will be open at all times.
