ST. GEORGE — Dixie State junior guard Ali Franks was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for her efforts in the Trailblazers’ weekend sweep over MSU Denver and Chadron State.

Franks averaged a double-double with 15.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in the two games, and she shot 50 percent (10-of-20) from the field and 40 percent (4-of-10) from 3-point range. Additionally, Franks recorded five steals, five assists and three blocks.

Franks opened the weekend with a game-high 19 points to go with seven rebounds, two assists and two blocks on Friday in a crucial 62-55 victory over MSU Denver. The junior then followed up that performance with a double-double on Saturday in an 87-52 win over Chadron State, scoring 12 points to go with a career-high-tying 14 rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Dixie State (8-5, 4-5 RMAC) opens a four-game road swing this weekend with a Friday matchup at Colorado Christian and a Saturday tilt at Regis.
