Utah State’s Madison Ward-Sessions was tabbed the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference (MRGC) Vault and co-Floor Specialist of the Week, it was announced Sunday by the league office.

It is the first time this year and eighth and ninth times in her career that the senior all-arounder has earned MRGC weekly honors. Overall, these are the Aggies’ 21st and 22nd MRGC weekly accolades in their fourth season in the league.

The native of Rexburg, Idaho, tied for first on floor with a 9.900 in Utah State’s season opener last Saturday at the Pitt quad meet in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She also captured the bars title with a 9.825, and she has now won 24 titles overall during her career. Ward-Sessions recorded a 9.850 on vault to tie for third at the quad meet.

As a team, the Aggies placed third overall with a 194.600, the highest season-opening score in program history. No. 22 West Virginia finished first with a 195.500, Pitt took second with a 194.750, and Eastern Michigan rounded out the field in fourth with a 192.700.

Boise State’s Shani Remme was tabbed the MRGC Gymnast, Beam and Floor Specialist of the Week. She shared the floor title with Ward-Sessions and BYU’s Shannon Evans. The Broncos’ Courtney McGregor and Emily Muhlenhaupt joined Evans as the MRGC Bars Specialist of the Week.

Ward-Sessions and the Aggies return to action on Friday, Jan. 18, when they welcome BYU to the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum for both their home and MRGC opener. The dual meet is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
