The Salt Lake City Council this week elected a new leadership team for 2019.

SALT LAKE CITY — The City Council this week elected a new leadership team for 2019.

Charlie Luke, who represents District 6, was named chairman and James Rogers, who represents District 1, was named vice chairman. They take over from outgoing Chairwoman Erin Mendenhall and Vice Chairman Chris Wharton.

In addition, applications will be accepted through Tuesday from people interested in serving the remainder of former Councilman Derek Kitchen's term through the end of 2019. Kitchen resigned his post after winning a seat in the Utah Senate.

Salt Lake City Recorder Cindi Mansell will collect applications and provide them to the City Council office. The council will then interview each applicant in a public meeting. Interviews are scheduled to begin Jan. 22.
