SYRACUSE — The city’s Disaster Preparedness Committee and fire department will host a seven-week Community Emergency Response Team course to educate the public about disaster preparedness.

The courses will be held on Wednesdays beginning Feb. 20 through April 17. Classes will be taught from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Syracuse Fire Station, 1969 S. 3000 West. The course will conclude with a mock disaster drill on Saturday, April 20, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Topics of the coursework will include damage assessment, incident command, fire safety and suppression, hazardous materials, terrorism, search and rescue, medical skills and first aid, and psychology of a disaster.

Cost is $45, which includes instruction and training materials, a hard hat, vest, gloves, goggles and triage tape.
