Letter to the editor

I applaud President Trump's recent decision to bring troops home from Syria. As serious as issues are in that area, those nations need to learn to solve their own problems in a peaceful way. I would be very much opposed to the continued quartering of British troops in my area of the country today.

I spent a year of my life in the Army stationed near the DMZ in Korea in 1972. We all knew that our presence just served as a tripwire for a potential invasion by the North Korean forces. Our individual duties as part of that large occupying force were minimally important, in my opinion. I would support Trump bringing home more troops from Germany and Japan, where they have been stationed for more than 70 years.
