Utah State softball will begin preparations for its 2019 season with team practices starting on Monday, Jan. 7.
The Aggies will practice from 3-6 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays; and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. Practices will be held in the Stan Laub Indoor Training Center until weather permits the team to move outside to LaRee and LeGrand Johnson Field.
Utah State will open its 2019 competition slate on Friday, Feb. 8, as it takes on Northwestern and Loyola Marymount in the Titan Classic at Cal State Fullerton. In all, the Aggies will play in five preseason tournaments.
In Mountain West action, Utah State will play a home series against UNLV (March 22-24), New Mexico (April 5-7), Fresno State (April 18-20) and San Diego State (May 9-11). On the road, the Aggies will play Nevada (March 15-17), Colorado State (March 29-31), Boise State (April 12-14) and San José State (April 26-28).
Along with the Mountain West series, the Aggies will have several head-to-head contests with regional opponents Weber State, Idaho State, Utah Valley and BYU throughout the season.Comment on this story
USU returns seven starters to the field this season in sophomore pitcher Delaney Hull, senior catcher Bailey Lewis, sophomore infielder Emery Marshall, sophomore outfielder Leah Molina, junior outfielder Riley Plogger, sophomore infielder Stephanie Reed and senior first/third baseman Bailee Trapp. The Aggies also welcome 10 newcomers with seven freshmen, two junior college transfers and one Division I transfer.
Head coach Steve Johnson is set to begin his sixth season at the helm of the Utah State program. He added two new assistant coaches to his staff this offseason in Laura Heberling and Jo Koons.
