SALT LAKE CITY — The United States culture has a new challenge — the “Bird Box” challenge.

The new challenge comes from the Netflix film “Bird Box,” which tells the story of a woman (Sandra Bullock) and her family trying to survive a world infested with supernatural creatures. The catch — the characters can’t look at the creatures, otherwise they will end up committing suicide.

According to Netflix, about 45 million accounts have watched the film. It’s inspired memes, theories, questions, Twitter roasts and more.

Now, people are actually participating in a challenge where they throw on a blindfold and attempt to walk around their house, put on lipstick, or try to partake in everyday activities.

According to BuzzFeed, one noteworthy video shows a man leading his family through a home while wearing the blindfold. The children run through a doorway and a toddler hits his head on the wall.

Reaction: Netflix has advised people to not embrace the challenge.

“Can’t believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE. We don’t know how this started, and we appreciate the love, but Boy and Girl have just one wish for 2019 and it is that you not end up in the hospital due to memes.”
