BRIGHTON — Police have named the man who died after crashing into a tree while skiing Monday at Brighton Ski Resort.

Michael Rueckert, 63, was skiing around a bend when a stopped skier appeared in his path, and when he tried to maneuver around them, he lost control, left the path and struck a tree, according to the Unified Police Department.

The man was skiing with his family at the time, Unified Police Lt. Manfred Lassig said.

Ski patrol crews arrived at Rueckert's side and attempted to revive Rueckert, but he died from his injuries, according to the lieutenant.
